The Tanglin Trust students from Singapore joined students from Lamdon School,Leh to form very productive bilingual teams that performed brilliantly in all the necessary tasks of the dental/vision workflow at the camp today. We screened and treated over 200 patients that ranged in age from 4 to 84.

From registration to assisting the dentists with their patient exams and x-rays to conducting oral health classes to applying decay preventing fluoride varnish, the students of both schools worked seamlessly together. Those teams working with the optometrists did the preliminary VA testing, assisted the optometrist, tested for and distributed reading and sunglasses and then helped the patients select personalized frames for their prescription eyeglasses that will be provided free of charge to the patients.

An independent team of 15 TTS & Lamdon students broke away from this primary camp and travelled to the location of the Islamic School where they went class-to-class providing oral health instructions and distributing excellent quality toothbrushes. The students of both schools were fully engaged and grateful for the opportunity to have such important responsibilities in the examination and treatment process that will ultimately benefit the patients to such a large extent. When the camp is over on Wednesday, we will be setting up appointments to treat all the dental patients in our clinic in Leh and providing whatever medications and eyeglasses the vision patients require. It was a thought-provoking and enormously rewarding day for volunteers, doctors and patients alike.
